In my community(Nkhotakota district), the challenges young girls face during menstruation are profound and often overlooked. Among the 32 girls I regularly engage with, many quietly endure the discomfort and stigma of menstruation without access to proper hygiene or affordable sanitary pads. For some, this means missing several days of school each month, falling behind in their studies, and feeling isolated during a time when support is most needed.
Our netball sessions have become more than just a game; they are a refuge where these girls feel safe to open up about their struggles. One day, as we sat together after a match, a girl hesitantly shared her story. She spoke of how she dreads her period, not because of the physical discomfort, but because she lacks the basic resources and understanding to manage it. Her vulnerability resonated deeply with the group, and she asked if I could teach them about menstrual health and show them how to make reusable pads.
This moment was a turning point. It became clear that these girls are not just in need of resources but of knowledge and empowerment to take control of their health. Their courage to voice this need has inspired the creation of a club dedicated to menstrual health & hygiene, education, and skill-building. Together, we hope to break the cycle of stigma, absenteeism, and economic limitation.
Your support can help provide the materials and resources needed to make this vision a reality. By donating, you are not just giving pads or sewing kits you are giving these girls the tools to reclaim their dignity, confidence, and future.
